Wow what an amazing day!! Jaxsen Taj Brinton was born Saturday January 29, 2011 at 11:31 am. He was 8 lbs 3 oz and 20 1/4 inches long! We just love him! Here's how it went...
The night before~
Friday was pretty normal all day. I wasn't feeling any painful or regular contractions. My mom had been sick all week and I knew I couldn't do this whole birth thing without her. She was feeling better by Friday and I had by that point gotten everything ready that I could, so I finally felt like I was prepared. I had put off trying anything to make him come until then, other than a walk or two during the day. Friday I started downing pineapple just to see and went walking all day basically! We went to the mall and to a few stores and even walked around the neighborhood. Hayli cut and colored my hair that night and I went home and hung out with Corey. Still nothing in the contractions department. Around 11:45 we went in to bed and about 20 minutes later GUSH!! My water broke! I immediately woke up, jumped out of bed yelling to Corey my water broke and ran to the bathroom! Did Corey wake up? No! After yelling to him from the bathroom three more times he finally woke up. And of course the first thing he says is "Are you sure?" Am I sure? Of course I am sure! Look at the huge puddle next to you on the bed!! He spent the next twenty minutes running around the house like a chicken with his head cut off. Meanwhile I am still trying to convince him that my water really broke! I was surprisingly calm and in no pain whatsoever. I had been telling him all week to have his stuff ready by Friday. Did he? Of course not! Despite my telling him multiple times this was happening soon, He was convinced this child wouldn't be arriving until his due date! We called the parents and after grabbing everything we could remember, we finally hit the car! The whole way to the hospital I was as happy as a clam! Still no contractions and the best part... they couldn't send me home!
Hospital~
We arrived at the hospital, towel between my legs and got checked in around one. They sent us to Triage and got all of my information. The nurse kept saying IF your water broke, and we'll check to see IF it broke. IF? Seriously? Like I don't know for sure that the constant gushing is my water breaking and not me peeing my pants every few minutes! I know they have to double check but give me a little credit! Surprise surprise it really did break! After coming to that conclusion they finally set me up in a room! They checked me and said I was 1.5 cm dilated and that it would be quite a while before this baby came. Around 2 o'clock I was still not painfully or consistently contracting. They gave me Cytotek, a pill to induce labor around 2:20 and by 2:30 I started feeling the contractions. The first hour was painful but bearable, the next two were the absolute worst hours of my entire life. I have never felt so much pain! I seriously thought I was going to die! The worst part was, the nurse came in about half way through and said I still wasn't really in active labor. So here I am thinking I am going to have to do this forever! She said they typically give an epidural around 4 cm. Since my water broke they were hesitant about checking me and said they would do it every 4 hours or so. At the end of hour 3 she came in and asked on a scale of 1 to 10 how bad the pain was. I told her if this isn't a ten then I don't want to know what is! I asked her to check me and surprise surprise I was a 4! (these nurses didn't realize I have the Norton gene of fast progressing labors! Thank you grandma and mom!!!) She asked if I wanted anything for the pain and I said Epidural Please!!!! A few minutes later a little piece of heaven on earth arrived!! And no it wasn't Jax! In walked the anesthesiologist with my epidural! From that moment on I knew I wasn't going to die :) For the next few hours labor was quite a pleasant experience!! I sat there watching my contractions on the monitor and feeling absolutely nothing! It was quite amazing! Around 9:30 am the nurse came in to check me once again. She gets this shocked look on her face, looks up and says wow your at a ten! Again... thank you mom!!! The doctor had a scheduled C-section so she told me that we weren't going to start pushing until the doctor was out. So an hour goes by! I was going crazy!! By 10:30 she decides I can start pushing... Finally!! Well little did we realize I could have started an hour before and been just fine with the timing of the doctor! I ended up pushing for an hour and all because I wasn't doing it right!! The sweet nurse as nice as she was, wasn't very helpful in the department of critiquing and telling me what I could do different. I Finally figured out what I should be doing and 15 minutes later our prince arrived! At least I'll know for the next one right?!?! Lets just say the next child I will be requesting an epidural on arrival and I will know how to push correctly! But that won't be for quite a while!!
Jaxsen~
We were taking bets on who this boy would look like! I was convinced he was going to come out looking just like his dad! Blonde hair, green eyes and white as a ghost (No offense on the skin babe!). Yes I have dominant features but all three of my brothers and sisters had blonde hair, green eyes, and light skin. Well halfway through pushing we hear the nurse comment on his dark hair. Wait what?!? Come again! Did you say dark hair? That she did! 30 minutes later he comes out with dark brown hair, red skin and the potential for dark eyes! The best part is, he has Corey's nose and it looks so cute on him!! His face and facial expressions look just like his dad and I love it! So he turned out the be the perfect mix! Mom's hair, eyes, skin and dads nose and cute face! Wait did I mention hair? He has hair everywhere! His back is covered and he even has hair on his ears! Its so funny! I was quite hairy as a baby and Corey can grow a beard in an hour so I guess it makes sense! We just love this boy! He is the pride and joy of all of his grandparents and he has his aunts and uncles wrapped around his finger! He even got my dad to change a few of his poopy diapers! That is completely unheard of! We are so happy to have him finally here on earth with us! He truly is amazing!
